SHU Host Charity Development Tournament

A great day was to be had by all last weekend as Sheffield Hallam hosted a successful development tournament allowing new players to face teams of similar abilities and to raise money for a great cause The Danny Porter Foundation.

The day started out with a round robin between the 4 Yorkshire based teams. The games were well fought out and took some time for each team to get used to the 8-a-side format. At the end of the play ins York finished top putting up a total of 7 goals and conceding only 1 making them favourites to win the knockouts.

Round Robin Standings

GF GA PTS

  1. YORK     7                1              9

  2. HULL                 6                7              6

  3. SHEFF               4                4              3

  4. HALLAM           3                8             0

The semi finals were two close affairs. Hull came out on top of a 6-5 thriller against Uni of Sheffield, while on the other pitch a 1-1 draw between York and Hallam meant golden goal overtime was needed to decide the winner. After 3 mins of end to end lacrosse, Hallam got a break and scored to go into the final.

A Hallam vs Hull final was a replay of the days first game which resulted in a 3-2 win to the travelling side. This time it was to be Hallam who took a two goal lead early on and continued to resist each of Hull’s responses holding on to finish 5-4 winners in a fantastic end to the day.

Many thanks to all the teams involved and to the referees on the day who did a fantastic job and kindly donated their match fee’s to the Danny Porter Foundation along with the rest of money raised.
