EULC Presents: The Inaugural Lacrosse Varsity
On Wednesday 23rd January, Exeter University Lacrosse Club Hosted its first ever Lacrosse varsity, with both Women’s and Men’s 1s playing at home against Oxford. Being such a momentous occasion for the club, a huge amount of effort went into the occasion, with massive thanks to the committee, especially Club Captains, Ellie Shepherd and Nick Woolgar.
To gain more spectators, the matches were held at the Sand Astro and Rubber Crumb on campus, rather than our grass pitches at Topsham. Entry to the event was free, but we used this opportunity as a club to collect donations for our club charities; Brain Research UK, MS Trust & United Through Sport.
Although Exeter didn’t come away with a double victory, it was an excellent day and we estimate there were over 400 people watching; a great promotion of the sport at the University. We were even able to gain coverage of the games in the University newspaper Exposé; both stories have been added to our website so please head there if you would like to read the full stories of the matches.
The final scores were:
Women’s: Exeter 1s 7-8 Oxford 1s
Men’s: Exeter 1s 12-8 Oxford 1s
Thank you for everyone who came to watch, we hope to make this an annual event in the lacrosse calendar.
